Firebirds Win 4-1, Stay Undefeated vs. Memorial Cup Champions

Oshawa, Ont. - Brendan Johnston recorded his first victory between the pipes in a Firebirds uniform and Nicholas Caamano scored two goals for the second consecutive game in a 4-1 victory Friday night over the defending CHL Memorial Cup champions, the Oshawa Generals.

Caamano scored his first of the night from the top of the left circle to earn the Firebirds the go-ahead goal at 7:02 of the opening frame. The Firebirds held the lead for the remainder of the game.

After a scoreless second period, Cullen Mercer fired the puck off the far post before Connor Chatham buried home the game-winning goal with 5:33 remaining in the contest.

Oshawa scored their lone goal on a shot that was deflected by Dominic Commisso over Johnston's right shoulder with 2:36 to play.

Caamano notched his second of the evening and 13th of the season, sending the puck into an empty net from in front of the penalty boxes before Will Bitten's extra effort attempt resulted in a second empty net goal with 9 seconds on the score clock.

With the 4-1 victory over the Oshawa Generals, Flint improved to 14-15-1-2 on the season and moved into a two-way tie for 4th place in the West Division with the Saginaw Spirit.

The Firebirds will play their fourth consecutive road game Saturday night and final contest before the Christmas break at the FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton, Ont. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. (EST).

Saturday's game against the Bulldogs will be televised live in Hamilton on channel 14 for Cogeco TV, Rogers TV and Source Cable TV subscribers. In addition, the game will be televised live across the province of Ontario on the OHL Action Pak on cable channel 436. Fans can listen live in Flint and Mid-Michigan on 1330 AM WTRX Sports Radio and around the world online on the iHeartRadio app. Dominic Hennig will call the play-by-play action on the Flint Firebirds Hockey Radio Network. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:30 p.m.
