Otters DH Preview vs. Gateway Grizzlies
June 3, 2015 - Frontier League (FL)
Evansville Otters News Release
Evansville, IN- After being swept in a doubleheader on Sunday against the Windy City Thunderbolts, the Evansville Otters (10-5) look to get two back when they take on the Gateway Grizzlies (4-12) in a doubleheader at Bosse Field with Game One at 5:35 CDT P.M.
The Otters dropped Game One on Sunday 4-3 after leading 3-0 through the first four innings, but a three run fifth for the Thunderbolts and a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh ended the Otters' hopes of winning the first game. Game Two saw Efrain Nieves with the ball in his left hand, but despite coming into the game with a 2-0 record and a 0.00 ERA, he allowed six runs in four innings of work, four earned, and was saddled with his first loss of the season in the 6-1 defeat.
Today's doubleheader will feature Jake Raffaele of the Otters going up against Tyler Thompson of the Grizzlies. Raffaele is in his second year of professional baseball and first with the Otters. The lefty will make his second appearance of the season and first start for the Otters in Game One. In his only appearance, Raffaelie pitched the final two innings of the Otters in against the Florence Freedom on May 22nd. In the outing, Raffaele was not touched, going two innings without allowing any hits and striking out three of the seven batters he faced.
His counterpart in the matchup will be Tyler Thompson who will make his fourth appearance and fourth start of the season. So far this season, the righty from Cuba, MO is 0-1 with a 3.50 ERA. In his last start, he went six innings in a no decision while allowing four hits and four runs, although only one of those was earned and striking out six verses just two walks.
Game Two features a pair of righties going toe-to-toe in Will Oliver for the Otters and Kevin Sweeney for the Grizzlies. Oliver is looking to bounce back after a shaky outing against the Lake Erie Crushers. Oliver took the mound in a day start on May 27th and while he did pitch six innings in the no decision, the control pitcher allowed eight hits and four runs, all earned, while walking four and striking out three. For Sweeney, it will be his first start for the Grizzlies after being on the roster for the Gary South Shore Railcats of the American Association.
The first game scheduled is to start at 5:35 CDT P.M. and the pregame show with Mike Radomski, Bill McKeon and Jake Donnelly is scheduled to begin at 5:15 CDT P.M.
