Aviators Battle Back to Split with Wild Things

The Rockford Aviators (13-4) split a doubleheader against the Washington Wild Things (8-9) by coming from behind to defeat the Wild Things 5-4 in the nightcap after Washington claimed the opener 2-1 in extra innings in Frontier League baseball action Wednesday night at Consol Energy Park in Washington, PA.

Righthander Kyle Brueggeman registered another solid outing in Game One by limiting the Wild Things to just one run on three hits in six innings with four walks and nine strikeouts. Colby Holmes (0-2) suffered the loss in relief as Washington walked off with the extra inning win on a bases loaded single by Austin Wobrock in the bottom of the eighth.

The Aviators rallied twice in the nightcap to overcome deficits of 2-0 and 4-3 to eventually overtake the Wild Things. Tanner Witt's two run double capped off a three run rally in the third while Michael Hur's RBI single plated the eventual game winning run in the sixth. Reliever Roberto Padilla (1-0) chalked up the win by hurling two scoreless innings in his season debut while Michael Schaub recorded the save with a perfect seventh inning.

The two teams conclude their series Thursday Night at Consol Energy Park (6:05 pm CT) before the Aviators travel to play the Windy City Thunderbolts in Crestwood, IL this weekend.
