
Slammers Come Back from a 7-0 Deficit to Beat Greys

Joliet, IL- Down 7-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, the Joliet Slammers (7-10) score four runs in the sixth and five in the seventh on their way to a 9-8 win over the Frontier Greys (6-9) on Wednesday night. The win snapped a six-game losing streak for Joliet.
The Greys scratched first, scoring three runs in the third inning against pitcher Travis Bradshaw, who was making his first start of the year. With one out, LF Shane Brown cranked his first home run of the season over the left field fence, giving the Greys a 1-0 lead. Catcher Julio Rodriguez singled, and 2B Zach Tanner hit a home run over left-center, putting the Greys on top 3-0.
Frontier expanded their lead to 7-0 in the sixth inning. RF Jhiomar Veras singled with one out, and Carcaise doubled to put two in scoring position. New pitcher Jacob Butler misfielded a ball allowing Veras to score, and 3B Brandon Tierney doubled to score Carcaise. After another run crossed on a fielder's choice, Sam Montgomery pinch hit and singled to drive in a run, putting the Greys up 7-0.
The Slammers got those four runs back in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out, SS Alfredo Rodriguez singled. DH Russell Moldenhauer doubled off the center field wall to drive in Rodriguez. 3B Mike Garza reached as on an error. RF Hunter Ridge drove in Moldenhauer with a single to right, making it a 7-2 ballgame. With the new pitcher Richard Bielski in, 1B Adam Giacalone, making his first start of the year, singled to drive in Garza. Ridge was thrown out trying to score on the play. C Jack Cleary then walked to load the bases, and with pitcher Michael Joseph in, Casper drew a base-on-balls as well. With the score 7-4 and the bases still loaded, CF Charlie White grounded out, ending the Slammers threat.
Joliet completed the comeback in the 7th against pitcher Joesph. Rodriguez reached second on a single, advancing to second on an error by the shortstop Rosario to leadoff. Moldenhauer drove him in with an RBI single to right. 3B Mik Garza brought home Moldenhauer with a base knock. Ridge singled to load the bases and then Bates brought home two with an RBI single. A wild pitch from the new pitcher hurler Shankin put runners at the corners. 1B Adam Giacalone grounded out and drove in a run. Then Cleary drove in Bates with a single to give the Slammers a 9-7 advantage.
The Greys scored a run in the top of the eighth to make it 9-8, but the Slammers shut them down in the ninth. Navery Moore tossed a scoreless final frame to seal the Slammers 9-8 victory. Sam Moore (2-0) earned the win in relief, while Moore picked up his fourth save of the season. Bates and Ridge combined for six hits, earning co-Merchants and Manufacturers Bank Players of the Game.
