Evansville Otters News Release

The Evansville Otters scored two runs in the top of the ninth innings and got their six game roadtrip off to a winning start, beating the River City Rascals 5-4.

Evansville scored three runs in the first inning, the big blow a two-run double off the bat of Trask Munoz. Mike Spry grounded out a batter later to score another run and put the Otters up 3-0.

The game would stay that way in to the sixth when Nick Saunders hit his eighth homer of the season to make it 3-1.

In the eighth, with a runner on first and one out, Mike Madrid reached out and pulled a fastball over the rightfield fence to tie the game at 3-3.

In the ninth, Frank Scott led off with a walk. After Denver Stuckey sacrificed him to second, Jeff Goldbach lined the first pitch into left for a base hit to score Scott. Goldbach moved to second on the throw to the plate. That proved to be huge as Goldbach scored on the next play, a throwing error by Anthony Slagle.

River City tallied a run in the bottom half of the inning, but with the winning run on first base, Ryan Burnau struck out Mike Conner to end the game. Burnau (3-3) picked up the win in relief. Patrick Evers (1-3) took the loss.

With his final strikeout of the contest, Andre Simpson hit 120 on the season, which ties him with former teammate Jeremy Lewis for the Otters' single season record.

Game two of the series is tomorrow with Chris Pillsbury (5-7) going for Evansville against Tony Marsala (4-2) for River City. Game time is 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 91.5, WUEV.
