Washington, Penn. - The Rockford RiverHawks committed four errors and the Washington Wild Things took advantage with five unearned runs, lifting them to an 8-7 win over the ‘Hawks.

The Wild Things took the lead for good in the seventh as Rockford made two errors on two different rundown plays in the inning. A dropped ball by first baseman Aaron McEachran on one play put runners at second and third and an errant throw by catcher Gooby Gerlits on the other play allowed the tying run to score. Pat O'Brien then brought in the go-ahead run on a groundout off Dave Dowling (2-4), who took the loss despite not allowing an earned run.

Each time the Wild Things took a lead in the game, they did so with unearned runs.

Stephen Spragg (4-0) picked up the win in relief and Jim Popp recorded his league-leading 14th save, getting Gerlits to ground into a game-ending double play with two runners on and only one out.

Washington scored twice in the second on a two-run single by Robert Morgan and added three more in the third. Chris Sidick hit a solo homer with two out in the fourth to give the Wild Things a 6-1 advantage.

Rockford battled back with four runs in the fifth, two of them coming on a two-out, bases-loaded single by Gooby Gerlits. The ‘Hawks took a 7-6 lead in the seventh on Brian Baron's fourth home run of the year, a two-run shot. Baron was 3-for-3 with three RBI and two walks.

Rockford returns to Marinelli Field at 7:05 p.m. Monday, August 22, to play the first of eight games at home in six days. Before Monday's game, the RiverHawks will host the third annual Doctors vs. Lawyers game at 4:05 p.m. Former major-leaguers George "Boomer" Scott and Minnie Minoso will serve as the celebrity managers.

The 'Hawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcast live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
