Evansville Otters News Release

June 25, 2009, Evansville, IN - The Otters added two new faces to the roster on Wednesday, welcoming in Eric Blackwell and Tyler Diamond. Both recently finished their collegiate careers at The Master's College in California. Blackwell, an outfielder, started all 59 games for the Mustangs and batted .356 with a team best 19 home runs and 57 RBI. "My understanding is that he has a cannon for an arm and I'm hoping he's an upgrade defensively in the outfield for us," said manager Wayne Krenchicki. Diamond, primarily a catcher in college, will serve as a first baseman for the Otters. He batted .254 in 56 games with 16 doubles, 10 home runs and 41 RBI his senior year. "This gives us a right-handed bat (at first base). It will give us some versatility," added Krenchicki. To make room for the Californians, the Otters released outfielder Donald Brown. Brown was batting .245 in 27 games with two home runs and 10 RBI. Prior to the Otters' road trip to Rockford, infielder Chad Daleiden retired, opting to pursue his law degree. Daleiden was batting .108 in 12 games in his first year of professional baseball.
