Evansville Otters News Release

June 26, 2009, Evansville, IN - Windy City used a four run 7th inning to surge past the Otters 6-5 at Bosse Field Thursday night. The big inning was made possible by two crucial Otters errors. Kai Tuomi recorded the first two outs of the inning, but then ran into trouble. Wilson Matos singled with two outs, and Damian Walcott followed with a sharply hit ground ball to third baseman Matt Pulley.

Pulley went down to one knee to field the ball, but had it ricochet off the heel of his glove, allowing Walcott to reach safely. Tuomi was lifted and replaced by right hander Nick Utley, who threw a wild pitch on his first offering, allowing the runners to move to second and third. Gilberto Mejia then hit a routine groundball to first baseman Taylor Diamond, who channeled his inner Bill Buckner as the ball trickled through his legs. Both runners scored, cutting a 5-2 deficit to 5-4. Back to back RBI doubles from Vinnie Scarduzio and Dan Jordan gave the ‘Bolts a 6-5 lead they would not relinquish.

The Otters had a chance in the bottom of the 7th, loading the bases with two outs before Matt Pulley flew out to left field. The Otters went down in order in the 8th and 9th. Adam Dominic picked up the win in relief, while Nick Utley absorbed the loss. Former major leaguer Billy Petrick pitched a perfect ninth for his first save. The rubber match of the three game series is Friday at 7:05pm CDT.
