Osuna Deals in Home Finale

Pearl, MS - Edgar Osuna was outstanding for the M-Braves in the final home game of the 2009 season. 2,410 fans filed into Trustmark Park to watch Osuna match the season high for strikeouts in a game by an M-Braves starter with 10 K in his fourth AA win of 2009.

The D-Jaxx got on the board in the top of the first when Ezequiel Carrera reached on an infield single and moved to second on a throwing error by Ernesto Mejia. Carrera then stole third and scored on a single by Travis Garcia. The Jaxx added a run in the third when Greg Halman doubled and scored on a Rich Poythress single.

Mississippi got on the board in the third. Jose Camarena led off with a single and Travis Jones followed with a walk. Brandon Hicks laid down a sac-bunt that was misplayed by Nick Hill to load the bases. Jason Heyward singled home Jose Camarena and Ernesto Mejia singled home Jones and Hicks to give the M-Braves the 3-2 lead.

Hicks led off the fifth with a double down the left field line and he scored easily on Heyward's single to right. After five, the M-Braves were up 4-2.

Edgar Osuna was outstanding for the M-Braves. He struck out a season-high 10 batters and gave up two runs, one earned, on eight hits through seven innings. He left the game with a 4-2 lead. Kevin Gunderson threw 1.2 scoreless innings and Steve Marek threw one pitch to earn his second save.

Hill gave up four runs, three earned, on seven hits while fanning nine in five innings. He left the game trailing 4-2. Anthony Varvaro threw two shutout innings and Mumba Rivera tossed one scoreless inning.

After and off day Wednesday, the M-Braves travel to Zebulon, NC for the final five games of the 2009 season against the Carolina Mudcats.

The Braves open the 2010 season at Trustmark Park on Thursday, April 8th, 2010 with game one of a five-game series against the Tennessee Smokies.
