
Smokies Announce Pair Of Roster Moves Tuesday

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies, Class AA minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, announce a series of roster moves Tuesday. OF Brandon Guyer returns to Tennessee from High-A Daytona for tonight's game vs. Mobile. In a corresponding roster move, OF Doug Deeds has been promoted to Triple-A Iowa.
The Smokies roster is still at 24 active players.
Guyer hit .173 in 52 games for the Smokies earlier this year, with one home run and 11 RBIs in 168 at-bats for Tennessee. He lit up Florida State League pitching while in Daytona, hitting .347 with 16 doubles and 32 RBIs in 73 games with the D-Cubs. Guyer was a fifth-round selection by the Cubs in the 2007 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
Deeds hit .305 in 61 games for the Smokies since arriving in mid-June from Iowa. While in Tennessee he also hit six home runs and drove in 19 runs. Deeds also spent time with the Smokies last year and was a 2008 Southern League Mid-Season and Postseason All-Star after batting .325 with 12 home runs and 58 RBIs in 122 games for Tennessee. The Cubs acquired him last April.
