Mobile BayBears News Release

KODAK, Tenn. - Casey Coleman tossed six solid innings while the Tennessee Smokies erupted for five runs in the first three innings on their way to an 8-1, series-clinching victory over the BayBears on Tuesday night at Smokies Park.

Tennessee (67-68, 35-30) wasted no time jumping on Barry Enright (10-9) who only lasted three frames in his shortest outing of the season. Starlin Castro began the bottom of the first with a single and took second on a sac bunt before stealing third. That set up Ty Wright who lined out to Cyle Hankerd in left, just deep enough to bring home Castro for the game's first run.

Pete Clifford kicked off the second with a single against Coleman (14-6) while Hankerd drew a walk in front of an Orlando Mercado base hit which brought home Clifford. Mercado moved up to second on an errant throw home by Tyler Colvin which put two men in scoring position with no outs, but Coleman buckled down and worked his way through without any more damage.

Coleman only coughed up one more hit after that as Mark Hallberg led off the third with a single before Coleman set down the final 12 men he faced. Marcos Mateo continued the string by retiring the first five men he battled in relief, marking 17 straight BayBears (64-71, 27-38) who didn't reach between the third and eighth innings.

Meanwhile, the Smokies grabbed the lead and padded it consistently as Robinson Chirinos doubled home Marquez Smith to put Tennessee in front during the second. Chirinos then scored on a knock by James Adduci to make it 3-1. Another RBI double by Chirinos put the Smokies up by three while Coleman's run-scoring single made it a 5-1 contest.

Kyler Newby was solid out of the bullpen as he tossed three scoreless innings before handing the reins to Leyson Septimo who imploded after retiring the first two men he faced. Septimo walked four consecutive hitters and delivered a pair of wild pitches to bring home two runs. Jordan Norberto surrendered an RBI double to Colvin in the eighth as he extended his hit streak to 17.

The Mobile BayBears have sent 100 players to the major leagues. They'll begin their final homestand on Thursday night as they host the Montgomery Biscuits at 7:05 with Bryan Augenstein (5-0, 0.99) getting the start.
