Knoxville Smokies News Release

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - A sense of urgency came over the Tennessee Smokies in their series finale with Mobile BayBears Tuesday night. Casey Coleman, Robinson Chirinos & Co. combined to dismantle the BayBears, 8-1. The 3,522 that came out to see Tuesday's game were the icing on a year that saw the Smokies draw 260,153 fans, third highest in the team's history and at Smokies Park.

Tennessee broke through in the bottom of the first, as Starlin Castro scored on a sacrifice fly by Ty Wright to put the Smokies up 1-0.

After Mobile tied in the game at one in the second, the Smokies would respond with two runs apiece in the second and third innings to go up 5-1 on Mobile. A Robinson Chirinos double brought home Marquez Smith from first on a textbook hit-and-run to put the Smokies up 2-0. Chirinos would score as well in the frame on a Jim Adduci single to give the Smokies a 3-0 lead.

Chirinos would be right in the middle of another Smokies rally in the third, as he belted his second double of the night to bring home Blake Lalli. Coleman then singled to bring home Smith to give the Smokies the 5-1 lead.

Three more Smokies runs in the seventh and eighth combined gave the Smokies a commanding 8-1 lead and put the game out of reach for the BayBears.

Coleman picked up his Southern League-leading 14th win of the season in Tuesday's win. The Florida native allowed only one run on three hits in six innings of work, striking out five. Marcos Mateo and Brian Schlitter combined to shutout the BayBears over the final three innings.

Mobile's Barry Enright took the loss to fall to 10-9 on the year. He would be chased after the third, allowing five runs on six hits in a rocky 79-pitch performance.

After a day off Wednesday, the Smokies head to West Tenn to face the Diamond Jaxx in a crucial five-game series starting Thursday. For the most up-to-date game action of the series between the Smokies and Diamond Jaxx, fans can visit www.smokiesbaseball.com to follow the action live.
