Orlando Scores Four in Second En Route to 6-2 Defeat of Rays

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Orlando Solar Bears (2-3-0-0) scored four times in the second period to take control of the game and earn a 6-2 win over the South Carolina Stingrays (1-4-1-0) at the North Charleston Coliseum on Tuesday night.

South Carolina got goals from forwards Steven McParland and Marcus Perrier in the loss. For both, it was their first tally of the season. McParland finished with a team-high two points, as he also assisted on Perrier's strike.

The Stingrays got off to the start they were looking for, scoring the first goal of the game at 5:44 of the opening period to make it 1-0. Forward John Parker found McParland in the Orlando zone with a drop pass and the rookie forward put a wrist shot up high over the glove of Solar Bear goaltender Ryan Massa for his first goal as a member of South Carolina.

It only took three minutes for Orlando to respond, as Nikolas Brouillard blasted a shot by SC goalie Adam Carlson at 9:00 of the opening period to even the score at 1-1.

At 10:57 Orlando took the lead when Patrick Watling scored his second goal of the year, making it 2-1 Solar Bears. South Carolina found themselves trailing after one period, despite outshooting Orlando 12-8 in the frame.

The Solar Bears took over the game in the middle period, scoring four times in the first 6:31 to jump out to a 6-1 advantage. Goals were scored by forwards Eric Faille, Brett Findlay, Denver Manderson and Brenden Miller.

Perrier got the Stingrays one goal closer at 9:59 of the second with assists from McParland and forward Patrick Gaul, that's the closest South Carolina could get to the Solar Bears.

The Stingrays began with Carlson in net, but he was replaced by Parker Milner after 23:54 of work and four goals allowed on 12 shots. Milner finished the game for South Carolina, stopping 12 shots while allowing two more goals.

Massa earned the win for the Solar Bears, making 24 saves in the game. Orlando finished 2-for-7 on the power play, while South Carolina failed to score with the man-advantage (0-for-6).

South Carolina is back at the North Charleston Coliseum Thursday night to take on the Elmira Jackals at 7:05 p.m.
