Doug Carr Named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week
November 1, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, are excited to announce that Doug Carr has been selected as the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the week of October 24-30.
Carr, 27, picked up his first two victories in a Wheeling uniform last weekend, as the team swept a home-and-home series against the Kalamazoo Wings. On Friday night, Doug was called upon in a big way, as Kalamazoo peppered the net with 47 shots during regulation and overtime. The Hanover, Massachusetts native was successful in keeping 45 of those attempts out of the cage, as the contest progressed to a shootout. Carr continued his brilliant play in the shootout, turning aside five of the six shots he faced, giving Ross McMullan the chance to win the game for the Nailers. The following night, Doug turned in a victorious performance on home ice, making 22 saves on 23 shots, including 11 during the first period.
The third year pro has started all five games between the pipes for the Nailers in 2016-17, going 2-2-1, with a 2.34 goals against average, and a .925 save percentage. Prior to coming to Wheeling, Carr played in the ECHL with the Manchester Monarchs and Colorado Eagles, while also skating in AHL contests with the Abbotsford Heat, Adirondack Flames, and Albany Devils. Doug's career record in the ECHL now stands at 22-20-1.
This is the first time that Carr has captured CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week honors in his career, and he is the first Wheeling netminder to win the award since Mike Condon during the week of March 31-April 6, 2014.
Doug Carr and the Wheeling Nailers will play two home games this week at WesBanco Arena. On Friday night, Wheeling hosts Toledo at 7:05 on a Flat Screen Friday presented by The Highlands, as well as a Frosty Friday. Then, on Sunday, it's a 5:05 game against Kalamazoo on a Family Funday, with McDonald's $6 kids tickets and a post game skate with the team. The next celebrity appearance at WesBanco Arena will be Pittsburgh Pirates Night, starring Clint Hurdle on December 3rd. To purchase tickets, or to get more information on season tickets, mini plans, group tickets, and more, call the Nailers at (304) 234-GOAL.
