Orlando Falls to Elmira 5-1

Elmira, NY - The Solar Bears surrendered four goals in the first period and could not mount a comeback as they fell to the Elmira Jackals 5-1 at First Arena on Friday night.

The Jackals got out to strong start, netting four goals in the opening period. First, F Riley Boychuk snapped in a shot from the right circle at 11:46, and F Jordan Pietrus followed up with a backhand shot on a power play at 13:21. Elmira then notched two more in the final five minutes of the frame, as F Ryan Rashid converted a turnover from the low slot and F Dane Walters picked the top corner with a wrister at 18:59 to give the Jackals a 4-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes.

Tough luck surfaced for Orlando in the second frame, as F Ian Slater hit the goalpost on a shorthanded breakaway and D Cody Wild rang a shot off the post on the power play shortly afterward. F Mickey Lang appeared to put Orlando on the board late in the period when he batted in the puck out of midair, but his goal was waived off. D Kyle Bushee then capitalized for Elmira, finishing off a 2-on-1 chance on a feed from F Will Frederick with 14.6 seconds left in the period as the Jackals led 5-0 going into the third.

The Solar Bears got on the board in the final frame with a power play goal at 7:37. Lang moved a pass to Wild who blasted a shot from the left point. F Taylor Matson deflected the puck in front of the net and past G Chris Dreidger to cut the score to 5-1. It was as close as the Solar Bears would get, as Elmira collected the 5-1 victory over Orlando.
