ELMIRA, N.Y. - April 4, 2014 - The Elmira Jackals announced today that defenseman Ben Blood has been reassigned to the club by the Ottawa Senators from the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League. Additionally, the team announced today that Harry Young has been placed on the 21-day IR.
Ben Blood returns to Elmira for his first stint with the Jackals this season.
Blood, 25, joins the Jackals for the first time this season. The 6-3 215-pound blueliner has notched two points in 48 games with Binghamton this season. The Plymouth, Minnesota native split last year between Binghamton and Elmira. Blood logged two points in 32 games with the Jackals and went pointless in 24 games with the Senators. Prior to turning pro, Blood logged 160 NCAA games at the University of North Dakota. He was part of a powerhouse program that won three consecutive WCHA championships from 2009-10 to 2011-12. Blood was also named to the WCHA All-Academic Team in each of those three seasons. Blood was selected in the fourth round (#120 overall) by Ottawa in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Young, 24, had four points (three goals, one assist) and 73 penalty minutes in 37 games with the Jackals this season. He also appeared in ten games with the Albany Devils of the American Hockey League. The Windsor, Ontario native has been placed on the 21-day IR after he missed Wednesday's game. The fourth-year pro has 186 career games split between the AHL and ECHL.
