Gladiators Get Weller Back from American Hockey

DULUTH, Ga. - Defenseman Justin Weller was reassigned to the Gwinnett Gladiators on Friday from the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League by the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League. In addition, defenseman Nolan Descoteaux was released by the Gladiators.

Weller, 22, received his first AHL call-up on March 8th, and played in three games for the Pirates. In 41 games with the Gladiators this season the Daysland, Alberta native has two goals, seven assists, 34 penalty minutes, and a +2 rating. Weller was a 4th round pick of the Coyotes (#105 overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Descoteaux (pronounced DAH-co-toe), 24, had one assist in nine games for the Gladiators after wrapping up his collegiate season at R.I.T.

The Gladiators take on the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:05 p.m. Friday at the Arena at Gwinnett Center, before wrapping up the 2013-14 season against the Elmira Jackals on Wednesday April 9th and Saturday April 12th.

The Gladiators are members of the ECHL, the nation's premier "AA" hockey league and are affiliated with the Phoenix Coyotes of the NHL.
