(Portland, ME) - RHP Blake Maxwell (4-7) hurled six scoreless innings on four hits and 1B Jon Still provided the offense with an RBI single as the Portland Sea Dogs (54-57) defeated the Bowie Baysox (60-52), 1-0 in the series opener on Friday night at Hadlock Field. The Sea Dogs have won three straight and improves to 1-game over .500 at home

(28-27) for the first time since June 20.

Maxwell stranded five runners over the first three innings, holding the Baysox 0-for-7 with runners-in-scoring position. After a walk to C Steve Torrealba in the second inning, Maxwell retired 14 of the final 15 batters faced and scattered four hits on one walk and fanned one over 6 frames.

Bowie out hit Portland 6-2, stranded nine baserunners, and finished 0-for-8 with runners-in-scoring position. Baysox CF Daniel Figueroa went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 singles. Still and C Luis Exposito provided Portland's hits (both singles).

RHP Tim Bascom (2-5) struggled with control over 5.1 IP, allowing only two hits but walked six and hit a batter. Portland was aided by two walks to score the game's lone run in the sixth inning. CF Ryan Kalish walked with one out and stole second base before a free pass to 3B Jorge Jimenez. With Still at the plate, Kalish stole third base and scored on Still's single to right field. Bascom walked RF Daniel Nava but RHP Fredy Deza bailed him out by inducing a 5-3 double play on C Juan Apodaca.

RHP Chad Rhoades relieved Maxwell in the seventh and scattered two hits over 1.2 scoreless innings to earn his 5th hold of the season. LHP Andrew Dobies entered the game with a runner on first base in the eighth and fanned former Sea Dog 1B Eric Crozier to end the inning. Dobies, who earned his 4th hold of the season, retired 2B Miguel Abreu on a fly out to start the ninth before RHP Bryce Cox entered the game. Cox fanned pinch-hitter Ambiorix Concepcion but walked RF Dave Krynzel and hit Torrealba. The righty ended the drama by fanning SS Robert Valido and earning his 9th save of the season.

The 3-game series shifts to Fenway Park on Saturday in the 4th annual Futures at Fenway with first pitch at 12:05 PM. LHP Felix Doubront faces off against RHP Steve Johnson. Notes...The Sea Dogs seek their second 4-game home winning streak on Saturday afternoon...Maxwell is 4-3, 2.96 ERA (16 ER/48.2 IP) since June 1 and has worked at least five innings in six consecutive starts...Exposito has hit safely in all three Double-A starts...Portland's bullpen has not allowed a run during the 3-game winning streak (7 IP).
