BOWLING GREEN, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods set a new high water mark for wins in a season at 85 with a 7-1 win over the Lake County Captains.
The scoring started in the third inning where RF Emilio Gustave leadoff with a double, and 3B Justin Bridgman scored him with a single to put the Hot Rods on the board. 1B Jim Haley followed up with an RBI double before LF Moises Gomez blasted a two run home run that went 438 feet to left-center field to make it 4-0 Hot Rods. DH Ronaldo Hernandez singled and came around to score to complete the five run inning.
The Captains got their lone run of the game in the top of the fourth inning thanks to back to back doubles from 1B Jose Vicente and C Joshua Rolette.
The Hot Rods got two more runs in the fifth inning when SS Zach Rutherford singled home 2B Trey Hair, and Hernandez score on a double play to make the score 7-1
RHP Alex Valverde got the start and the win for the Hot Rods. He threw five innings and allowed just the two hits and one run while walking one and striking out four.
RHP Paul Campbell was the only pitcher the Hot Rods used out of the bullpen and he threw four innings and only walked one while also picking up his first save of the season.
The Hot Rods and the Captains meet again tomorrow at 2:05pm CST from Bowling Green Ballpark. RHP Tommy Romero gets the start for the Hot Rods, and he will be opposed by RHP Felix Tati for the Captains.
