Burlington, IA - The pitching staff was fantastic and Jonathan Lacroix drove in five runs as the Quad Cities River Bandits handled the Burlington Bees 8-2 on Saturday night. Three Bandits pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts as the staff moved within eight strikeouts of tying the all-time Minor League Baseball record for a single season.

The River Bandits broke through in a big way after going scoreless for the first 12 innings of the series. In the top of the fourth inning the bases were loaded on hits by Alex McKenna and Miguelangel Sierra in addition to a walk from Alfredo Angarita. The first run scored when Michael Papierski's chopper to first was misplayed by first baseman Kiki Menendez, allowing everyone to advance safely. Trey Dawson doubled the lead with a line drive single into left field that made it 2-0. Burlington went to left-hander Max Hermann at that point. The southpaw struck out David Hensley, but Jonathan Lacroix blasted a bases clearing double into the gap in left center that pushed the lead to 5-0.

Burlington got a run back in the bottom half of the same frame. Orlando Martinez singled with one out and went to second bases on a Kevin Williams walk. Spencer Griffin followed by ripping a single over the head of Lacroix in left to score Martinez and trim the deficit to 5-1.

In the sixth inning, Griffin came through again for the Bees. Martinez reached on a wild pitch that made it to the backstop after he chased it for strike three. He promptly stole second base and then raced home on a line drive single from Griffin to close the gap to 5-2.

The Bandits added to their lead in both the eighth and ninth innings. In the former, Papierski singled with one out and advanced to second on a walk from Dawson. With two outs, Lacroix dropped a double just inside the foul line in left field to score both runners and make it a 7-2 game. McKenna clobbered his first home run with the River Bandits in the ninth to widen the margin to 8-2 which ended up the final.

Chad Donato went 5.2 innings and allowed two runs on four hits to earn the win. He collected ten strikeouts against just one walk. Tanner Duncan followed with 2.1 scoreless innings during which he fanned four. The final inning was worked by left-hander Parker Mushinski who retired the side in order.

The Bandits outhit the Bees 13-5 in the contest. Lacroix and McKenna each led the way with three hits. Lacroix also matched a Bandits season-high with his five runs batted in. Dawson, with a pair, was the other member of the lineup who tallied multiple hits.
