Amarillo Sod Poodles News Release
AMARILLO, Texas - Sod Poodles outfielder Edward Olivares made franchise history Sunday afternoon at HODGETOWN with his first career three-home run game, leading the Amarillo squad to an 8-5 victory over the Arkansas Travelers to even the series at 1-1 in front of 6,818 spectators. He finished the afternoon going 3-for-5 with three runs and five RBI on his three consecutive home runs. Padres' rehabber tossed 61 pitches over three innings Sunday afternoon in his first rehab start with Amarillo, allowing two hits, no runs, three walks while striking out two.
In the first inning, the Sod Poodles rallied early momentum once again with three quick runs.
After Rodrigo Orozco led off with a single to left field, Olivares slugged a deep fly ball off of the centerfield wall which bounced back toward to middle of the outfield, sending him around for an inside-the-park home run to give Amarillo a two-run advantage. After a double by Kyle Overstreet to restart the frame, a Webster Rivas groundout combined with a throwing error on Ivan Castillo's groundout would be good enough to plate Overstreet to make it a 3-0 ballgame.
In the Sod Poodles second, the team turned it on once again sparked by Buddy Reed's one-out double. With two outs, Olivares connected with a 2-1 pitch and sent it over the left field wall for his second home run of the game. Hudson Potts and Overstreet followed with a double and a single respectively to make it a 6-0 game.
In the fifth, Arkansas finally struck the scoring column when Evan White led the frame off with a solo home run to left field.
However, the daytime fireworks sponsored by Olivares continued when he led off the bottom half with a third home run on the afternoon, a solo shot to left field. Potts backed him up with another solo home run, his fifth of the season, to extend to an 8-1 lead.
The Travelers tacked on three more runs in the sixth thanks to Aaron Knapp's triple to the gap in centerfield, scoring a batter later on Joe DeCarlo's groundout, and Dom Thompson-Williams' three-run home run with two outs to make it an 8-4 difference.
In the ninth, Arkansas cut the Amarillo lead down to 8-5 with a Nick Zammarelli RBI double to center field. The RBI double was the only run of the inning as Amarillo reliever Kazuhisa Makita capped off the game with a strikeout to even the series at 1-1.
The Sod Poodles will enter into game three of the four-game set with the Seattle Mariners Double-A affiliate, the Arkansas Travelers, tomorrow evening with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. In game three, Sod Poodles right-hander Lake Bachar will face off against Arkansas righty Nabil Crismatt.

Leading the Way: With Olivares' three home runs Sunday - an inside-the-park home run, two-run homer in the second and solo shot in the fourth, he takes sole possession of the team-lead in home runs with eight. Olivares also owns the most home runs in the Texas League as of Sunday.
HR-HR-HR: Edward Olivares became the first Sod Poodles player in franchise history to record a three-home run game. He also became the third Sod Poodles player this season to collect a multi-home run game, joining in with Brad Zunica who reached the feat first on April 9 versus Midland and Jorge Oña who did it on April 20 against Corpus Christi.
A Trio of Trio: Edward Olivares collected his second consecutive three-hit game Sunday afternoon after doing the same Saturday night while Hudson Potts also collected his second three-hit game of 2019. On Saturday, Kyle Overstreet and Ivan Castillo collected three-hit games as well.
Hit For You, Hit For All: Every player in the Sod Poodles lineup on Sunday afternoon recorded a hit, marking the first time the team has reached the feat.
Diaz Rehab Recap: In his first MLB rehab start with Amarillo, Miguel Diaz tossed 61 pitches over three innings Sunday afternoon, allowing two hits, no runs, three walks while striking out two.
Hot Pot: Padres number 15-rated prospect Hudson Potts has swung a hot bat lately, batting .423 (11-for-26) over his last six games with three doubles, two home runs, and five RBI.
Reed All About It: Outfielder Buddy Reed collected his first extra-base hit, a double, on Sunday afternoon in his first at-bat. It marked his first double since April 15 at Midland.

Overstreet Continues: Kyle Overstreet collected his first and second multi-hit games of the 2019 season over consecutive games on Saturday and Sunday with his three-hit night and two-hit game respectively. PREVIOUS NOTES:
Rain Delay: The Sod Poodles and Travelers game one was threatened by rain and lightning, sending the Saturday night contest into a 2:02 delay. It was the first delay ever at HODGETOWN.
That's A First: Jesse Scholtens was the losing pitcher for the first time Saturday night after pitching 5.1 innings against the Arkansas Travelers. Scholtens allowed five earned runs on nine hits but struck out seven Arkansas batters in the contest.
Scholten's Sixth Start: Sod Poodles starter Jesse Scholtens made his sixth start of the 2019 season, taking his first loss of the season after going 5.1 innings while allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits with one walk surrendered and a season-high seven strikeouts.
You're Outta Here: Arkansas faced three ejections Saturday night in game one of the four-game set. In the fourth inning, designated hitter Jake Fraley was ejected by home plate umpire Brian Walsh followed by Travelers Manager directly after for arguing. Then, in the eighth, Arkansas outfielder Dom Thompson-Williams was ejected for arguing at the plate.
WALKOFF: The Amarillo Sod Poodles walked off the Springfield Cardinals Friday night in the 11th inning when Hudson Potts blasted a two-run home run to deep right field to give the Sod Poodles the 6-5 victory. The walk-off was the first ever in franchise history as well as the first-ever extra-innings win.
Again?!: Hudson Potts recorded his second game-winning hit Friday night when he belted a two-run walk-off home run off of Springfield reliever Seth Elledge. On April 24, Potts did the same exact thing when he hit a two-run home run off of Elledge to break a 2-2 tie and to give the Sod Poodles the 4-2 lead and eventual victory in Springfield.
Not Weir(d): T.J. Weir tossed five innings of seven-hit baseball Friday night at HODGETOWN. Weir only allowed three runs and struck out nine Cardinal batters. Weir's efforts wouldn't be good enough to pick up his third win of the season as he took the no-decision.
Pitchers Who Rake: Friday night's starter T.J. Weir and reliever Andres Munoz both helped themselves out as they recorded hits in the ballgame against the Cardinals. Weir roped a double to the left field wall in the bottom of the third inning. Then in the bottom of the sixth Munoz hit an RBI single to center field.
Keeping it 100: Hard-throwing Andres Munoz tossed his sixth-consecutive scoreless outing for Amarillo and recorded his first complete two-inning appearance ever in his career. Over his last six outings, he has combined for seven innings while allowing just two hits and three walks with 16 strikeouts.
Count It: Reliever Andres Munoz recorded his first career hit and RBI on Friday night against the Springfield Cardinals. The RBI single to center field gave Amarillo a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth.
