LAST GAME: Ryan Roberts keyed Oklahoma's second straight win with a two-run home run in the RedHawks 4-2 win over the Nashville Sounds Wednesday afternoon. Roberts blast helped Oklahoma overcome an early 1-0 deficit. Elizardo Ramirez was one out away from a complete game when Jose Diaz entered to close out the contest. Ramirez notched his tenth win for Oklahoma, while Diaz earned his first save as a RedHawk since 1996. Ben Harrison had three of Oklahoma's nine hits.
SWEET SOUNDS: Oklahoma entered play this season 12 games under .500 against Nashville in the all-time series with a 74-86 mark. Wednesday's win was the RedHawks 13th in 14 chances this season and split the all-time series at 87 win apiece. Oklahoma is 45-43 against Nashville at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark, including eight wins and no losses this season, and 42-44 all time against the Sounds at Greer Stadium.
LOVE THE LEFTY: Oklahoma improved to 17-12 this season when facing a left-handed starting pitcher. The RedHawks are hitting .283 against southpaws this season with 28 home runs and 141 runs batted in. Nashville is slated to start two more left-handers over the final two games of this series.
THREE-BASE GLORY:
Ben Harrison became the 19th different player to hit a triple this season with his three-base hit in the ninth inning yesterday. Oklahoma leads every full-season team in triples across all of organized baseball; one more than Inland Empire of the California League (54), four more than Louisville in the International League, and 18 more than Arizona's Major League leading 37 three base hits. RedHawk batters knocked 29 triples last season, and 35 total in 2006.
HIGH QUALITY:
Elizardo Ramirez notched Oklahoma's 50th quality of the season in Wednesday's win. RedHawk starters improved to 38-37 with the victory and have now pitched into the six inning or later in 63 times in 125 chances, 50 of which have been quality outings. Ramirez leads the RedHawks in both categories, having gone six innings or longer 15 times and having pitched 12 quality starts in 20 chances.
HITTING STREAKS EXTENDED:
Ryan Roberts has a pair of hits to extend his hitting streak to nine games, matching the fifth longest hitting streak by any RedHawk this season. Roberts is hitting .368 during his last nine games. Ben Harrison had three hits and ran his streak to six straight game with at least one hit. Harrison also has an eight game on-base streak entering his next game. Casey Benjamin has also hit safely in his last six contests. dating back to August 2.
NASHVILLE AT A GLANCE:
The Sounds are hitting .258 against Oklahoma this season and hold a 5.86 staff ERA against the RedHawks... Sam Narron will make his second start of the year against Oklahoma and third overall appearance. Narron, who pitched for the RedHawks during the 2004 season, is 0-2 with a 4.86 ERA versus Oklahoma this year.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION:
Texas was doubled up 8-4 by Boston... Frisco drilled Tulsa 5-1... Bakersfield lost 9-4 to Stockton... Clinton edged Burlington 11-10 in 12 innings... Spokane fell 12-4 at Boise.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
Taylor Teagarden did not play in today's 7-0 Team USA win over the Netherlands in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. The United States will play defending gold medalist Cuba later tonight... Brian Gordon has not faced Nashville as a starter this season, having made three relief appearances during the month of June going 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA... Oklahoma's magic number is 14.
