Iowa Cubs News Release
Mitch Atkins (7-0) won his seventh game in a row for the Iowa Cubs and his 12th overall as the Cubs defeated the New Orleans Zephyrs 6-3 Thursday night at Principal Park. Atkins allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits over six innings to maintain his perfect triple-A record. Andy Green walked in the first inning for the Zephyrs and scored on Raul Casanova's single for the early 1-0 lead. The Cubs tied the game at one in the bottom of the inning when Micah Hoffpauir hit a solo home run to center field. New Orleans took a 2-1 lead in the second inning on an error by Iowa's shortstop, Luis Figueroa. Figueroa had three errors on the night. However, Bobby Scales led off the fourth inning for Iowa with a homer to tie the game at two. Scales, who was 3-for-4 on the night, then led off the sixth inning with a single. Tony Richie moved Scales to third base with a single and Figueroa's sacrifice bunt scored the go-ahead run. Hoffpauir and Casey McGehee hit back-to-back singles in the seventh inning before Scales drove in Hoffpauir for his second RBI of the night and the 4-2 Iowa lead. The Zephyrs scored again in the eighth but it was not enough as Iowa's Felix Pie hit a two-out, two-run single in the bottom half of the inning for the 6-3 final. New Orleans' Jon Niese (3-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on 10 hits through seven innings of work
