Oklahoma City Comets News Release

LAST GAME: Oklahoma dropped a 6-1 final to Tucson on Wednesday afternoon. The Sidewinders took a 1-0 lead after one and plated five runs in the top of the fifth inning. Chris Shelton's seventh home run as a RedHawks broke up the shutout in the home half of the ninth inning. Kameron Loe made a spot start and took the loss, allowing all six runs, five of which were earned.

PACIFIC FOE WOES: The RedHawks finished their regular season matchups against teams from the Pacific Conference on Wednesday with a loss. Oklahoma went 13-19 against the Pacific this season, including a 5-11 record at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark and an 8-8 mark on the road.

GREAT EIGHT: Oklahoma maintained an eight game lead over New Orleans in the American South despite Wednesday's loss. The Zephyrs lost 4-2 to the Las Vegas 51s on Wednesday. Oklahoma's magic number is 18.

ELLISON MOVES UP:

Texas purchased Jason Ellison's contract yesterday. Ellison has been Oklahoma's primary center fielder this season, playing in 114 games, more than any other player to suit up for the RedHawks this season. The 30 year-old hit .242 during that span with two home runs, 44 runs batted in, 56 walks, and 14 stolen bases. The Rangers are the fourth Major League team that Ellison has played for, in addition to San Francisco, Cincinnati, and Seattle.

PROMOTED:

Texas promoted outfielder Craig Gentry to the RedHawks roster earlier today from Frisco. Gentry was a tenth round selection during the 2006 draft out of the University of Arkansas and has played at each level of the Rangers Minor League system since his professional debut at Spokane in 2006. The 24 year-old held a minor league average of .275 entering play this season, with four career home runs, 44 runs batted, and 62 stolen bases spanning 165 games. Gentry hit .276 for the RoughRiders over 76 games this season with four home runs, 33 runs batted in, and 16 stolen bases. Gentry and John Mayberry were in the Opening Day starting lineup for Frisco in center and right respectively.

WITHOUT CRUZ:

Wednesday's loss dropped Oklahoma to 11-15 in games when Nelson Cruz is not in the starting lineup. Cruz is on the RedHawks disabled list with a strained left quad. The outfielder is still among the Minor League leaders in several major offensive categories.
