
Alvarado and Wilson Return to Bees

SALT LAKE CITY (August 8, 2008) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced today that the club has activated right-handed pitcher Giancarlo Alvarado and catcher Bobby Wilson from the disabled list. The club has also reassigned right-handed pitcher David Austen, catcher Tim Duff, and catcher Ben Johnson to Double-A Arkansas.
Alvarado, 30, was placed on the disabled list on August 4 with a right shoulder strain. He has appeared in 22 games for the Bees in 2008, owning a 6-4 record and 3.94 ERA with 113 strike outs. The Santurce, Puerto Rico native signed with the Angels in 2008.
Wilson, 25, was placed on the disabled list with a right thumb fracture on July 6. He has appeared in 52 games for the Bees in 2008, hitting .310 with 13 doubles, one home run and 28 RBI. He made his major league debut with the Angels on April 28, recording his first hit, a single, in his first at bat against the Oakland Athletics. The Dunedin, Fla. native was originally selected by the Angels in the 48th round of the 2002 draft.
Austen, 27, has appeared in 10 games for the Bees in 2008, owning a 1-1 record with an 8.04 ERA. In five games for Arkansas this season, Austen has a 0-1 record with a 4.61 ERA. The St. Petersburg, Fla. native was originally selected by the Angels in the 15th round of the 2003 draft.
Duff, 26, has appeared in 30 games for the Bees in 2008, hitting .196 with four doubles and eight RBI. He has appeared in 30 games for the Travelers this season, hitting .242 with three doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI. The Coatesville, Pa. native signed with the Angels as a nondrafted free agent in 2004.
Johnson, 26, has appeared in 22 games for the Bees in 2008, hitting .225 with two doubles, three home runs and 13 RBI. In 84 games for the Travelers this season, he hit .267 with 16 doubles, one triple, 20 home runs and 71 RBI. The Seattle, Wash. native was originally selected by the Angels in the 23rd round of the 2004 draft.
