Tucson Comes Up Short Against Tacoma In 4-3 Loss

Tucson, AZ - Tucson fell short against Tacoma 4-3 on Friday night at Tucson Electric Park. The loss snaps a two game winning streak for Tucson but did extend Tacoma's winning streak to ten games.

Micah Owings started the game for Tucson and got into trouble early by loading the bases with two outs in the first inning. Tacoma's Shawn Garrett singled to left scoring Prentice Redman. Matt Tuiasosopo was thrown out at the plate by Trent Oeltjen on the play to end the threat.

Tuiasosopo did extend the Rainiers lead to two in the fifth inning with a solo home run to left-center for his tenth of the season.

Tucson got things working in the sixth inning when Frank Curreri led off the inning with a single to left. Two batters later Curreri was brought in by a Oeltjen ground out to second.

The Sidewinders took the lead in the seventh with a pair runs. Wilkin Castillo brought in the first run with a single to left and advanced to third off an error by Rob Johnson. Curreri doubled to left to score Castillo for the second run of the inning giving Tucson a 3-2 lead.

Tacoma regained the lead in the eighth inning when Tucson reliever Connor Robertson surrendered 2-RBI double to left by Luis Valbuena scoring Jon Nelson and Johnson.

Frank Curreri had his best game in a Sidewinder uniform this season going 2-for-3 with an RBI, run, and a double.

The Sidewinders will face Tacoma in the second game of the series on Saturday night at 7:00 PM. LHP Evan MacLane (6-6, 4.66) is scheduled to start for Tucson. Righ-hander Travis Chick (0-0, 0.00) will start for the Rainiers. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:50 p.m.
