Portland Beavers News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Col. - Edwin Bellorin tied the game with an RBI double and Mike McCoy hit a game-winning single with the bases loaded in the ninth as the Colorado Springs rallied for three late runs to beat the Portland Beavers 4-3 Friday night at Security Service Field.
Chip Ambres belted a three-run homer in the sixth inning to give the Beavers (61-56) a 3-1 lead, but the Sky Sox (58-61) got a two-out RBI single from Christian Colonel in the eighth before rallying in the ninth against Portland closer Edwin Moreno (5-4), who suffered his fifth blown save.
Matt Miller started the ninth-inning rally with a single before moving to second on Sean Barker's sac bunt. After Bellorin's double tied the game, Moreno walked the bases full, leading to McCoy's RBI single that scored pinch-runner Josh Towers with the winning run.
Matt Daley (3-4) got the win in relief for the Sky Sox, who improved to 4-8 against the Beavers this season.
Portland starter Wade LeBlanc, the reigning PCL Pitcher of the Week, was in line to get the win after limiting the Sky Sox to a run and five hits in seven innings of work. It was the fifth strong start in a row for LeBlanc, who is 3-0 with a 0.84 ERA (3er, 32.0ip) in that span.
With Portland trailing 1-0 in the sixth, Peter Ciofrone singled and Paul McAnulty reached on a two-base error by Miller in left field; both were aboard when Ambres hit his 19th home run of the season. Ciofrone has now hit safely in league-high 23 consecutive road games and reached base in 29 straight contests away from PGE Park.
The Sky Sox, who have won their last four games, manufactured a run in the third as Chris Frey reached on a one-out single, moved to second on a sac bunt, stole third and scored on McCoy's single to center field.
NOTES: The Beavers announced that catcher Colt Morton has been transferred to Class AA San Antonio and pitcher Carlos Guevara has been placed on the disabled list with a right elbow spur ... the Beavers are now 46-4 this season when leading after eight innings.
