Oklahoma City Comets News Release

LAST GAME: Ruddy Lugo pitched seven strong innings to lead New Orleans to a 3-1 win, their first victory since June 20th. Travis Metcalf gave Oklahoma a short-lived lead in the second with a solo home run, but the Zephyrs would tie the game in the bottom of the inning and take the lead in the fourth for good. Kaz Fukumori allowed two runs, one earned, in his second spot start of the season, and took the loss to fall to 0-3.

MAYOR OF METAIRIE: Travis Metcalf has hit three home runs this season, all three of which have come on the road at Zephyr Field. The third baseman hit his first home run of the season at any level on June 5 against Ruddy Lugo. Metcalf has also homered in the last two games, taking Tim McNab deep Monday evening and tagging Lugo again last night. Metcalf is hitting .291 at Zephyr field this season with five runs batted in.

GOLDEN: Nate Gold is riding an eight-game hitting streak dating back to June 23. This eight-game stretch is his longest hitting streak this season, and is his fourth streak of five games or more.

BREAKING DOWN JUNE:

The RedHawks with the second most wins during the month of June, going 17-12, four wins behind Iowa's 21-10 mark. Oklahoma's team batting average of .275 was in the middle of the pack in the league, but their second best month offensively this season (April- .286 & May- .259). The RedHawks hit 38 home runs during the month, nine more than in April, but drove in 13 fewer runs (158-145). The team ERA of 4.15 for the month was the second lowest in the league (Colorado Springs- 4.10) and the clubs lowest this year (April- 4.29 & May- 4.42).

A WHOLE NEW LEVEL:

Texas promoted right-hander Tommy Hunter to the RedHawks roster yesterday and he will make his first ever Triple-A start tonight. Hunter began the season with Bakersfield and started nine games, going 5-4 with a 3.55 ERA. In mid-May he was promoted to Frisco and made eight starts for the RoughRiders, going 4-2 with a 3.78 earned run average. Hunter has a combined ERA of 3.66 this season with 78 strikeouts, 25 walks, and has allowed 45 earned runs over 110.2 innings this season. The Indianapolis native was a supplemental first round pick last season and will enter the RedHawks rotation one day before his 22nd birthday.

NEW ORLEANS AT A GLANCE:

The Zephyrs snapped their losing streak at a season-high nine straight last night, having been outscored 62-32 during the slide... Like Ruddy Lugo last night, Oklahoma will square off against Brian Stokes for the fourth time this season when the teams play tonight. Stokes is 2-1 against the RedHawks this season with a 2.91 earned run average. In his last start against Oklahoma at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark, the right-hander came within one out of his first complete game of the year for the Z's, allowing double to Jason Ellison that scored a pair before giving way to Carlos Muniz, who got Joaquin Arias to ground out on the second pitch of the at bat in New Orleans 6-4 win.

DOT-DOT-DOT:

Tommy Hunter will be the 15th different starting pitcher utilized by the RedHawks this season, including three different spot starters from the bullpen... Oklahoma has not won back-to-back games against the Zephyrs since sweeping the series in May at the Brick and winning the first game of the year in New Orleans, a trend that continued with last night's loss.
