Portland Beavers News Release

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Matt Antonelli drove in Will Venable with the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning and the Portland Beavers improved to 7-0 in extra innings with a 2-1 victory over the Sacramento River Cats Wednesday night at Raley Field.

Nick Hundley was 2-for-4 with two doubles, including a run-scoring double in the fifth inning that tied the game at 1-1, and Venable was 2-for-4 and scored both Portland runs.

The win went to reliever Joe Thatcher (4-0), who struck out four in 1 2/3 innings and hasn't allowed a run in his last 13 appearances with Portland (43-41). Edwin Moreno, who posted his 12th straight scoreless outing, locked his eighth save as the Beavers snapped a three-game skid.

Both starters turned in solid outings, but neither factored in the decision. Cesar Ramos gave the Beavers six innings, holding the River Cats to a run and six hits, while Lenny DiNardo gave up a run and five hits in his five innings for the River Cats (51-35).

Jerry Blevins (2-2) was on the mound in the decisive 10th inning to suffer the loss.

The River Cats got their run in the second inning, as Joe Gaetti reached on a leadoff single and later scored on a sac fly to left by Richie Robnett.

With the game tied at 1-1, though, Venable singled to lead off the 10th, moved to third on Hundley's second double of the game and, after a one-out intentional walk to Brett Dowdy, scored when Antonelli lifted a fly ball to left.

The Beavers wrap up their series in Sacramento Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. before returning home for a big Fourth of July game against Tacoma on Friday night.
