Tucson Edges Out Fresno 3-2

Tucson, AZ - The Sidewinders edged the Grizzlies 3-2 Wednesday night with timely hitting and quality pitching.

Reliever Reid Mathon made his Sidewinder debut tonight and got the save for Tucson, while reliever Jason Urquidez got his first win of the season for Tucson.

The first run of the game came off a Travis Ishikawa double to right field bringing in Clay Timpner to give Fresno an early 1-0 lead. Tucson came back in the inning and tied it with a Josh Whitesell RBI line drive single to left.

Tucson captured the lead in the sixth inning when Jesus Merchan hit line drive to left field scoring Tim Raines, Jr. from third. Fresno tied the game in the seventh when Tucson's catcher Wilkin Castillo had a throwing error on a fielder's choice attempt to third, which let Ehire Adrianza come around to score.

In the bottom of the seventh inning the Sidewinders regained the lead and kept it. Pinch hitter Trent Oeltjen broke the tie with a sacrifice fly scoring Donnie Kelly.

The Sidewinders will face Fresno in the last game of the series starting at 6:00 PM on Thursday night. RHP Esmerling Vasquez (1-2, 6.50) is scheduled to start for Tucson. Left-hander Patrick Misch (2-3, 5.08) will start for the Grizzlies. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 5:55 p.m.
