New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

The New Orleans Zephyrs got another solid effort from their starting pitcher, and a late offensive outburst broke open a close game as the Zephyrs beat the Oklahoma RedHawks on Wednesday, 7-2. Brian Stokes held Oklahoma to three hits over six scoreless frames, and notched his eighth win as the Zephyrs scored four times in the eighth inning to put the game away.

Although Argenis Reyes had four of the Zephyrs' 13 hits, it was the bottom half of the order that did most of the damage. The five through nine slots in the lineup combined for eight hits and seven runs batted in, including two-RBI nights from Michel Abreu, Anderson Hernandez and Abraham Nunez.

Nunez got the scoring started for the Zephyrs, breaking a scoreless tie on a two-out home run in the third, his first homer of the season.

The Z's added two runs in the next inning, when Michel Abreu delivered a bases-loaded single to plate two runs.

The four-run eighth was highlighted by a two-run triple by Hernandez.

Eude Brito earned his first save by recording the final five outs of the game.

The Zephyrs will aim for a series win against the first-place RedHawks on Thursday. The Independence Day celebration starts with first pitch at 7:00 p.m., as RHP Nelson Figueroa faces LHP Matt Garrison.
