LAST GAMES:
The RedHawks lost both games of a doubleheader to the River Cats, falling 6-4 in nine innings and 7-1 in the nightcap. Sacramento pounded out 27 hits combined between the two games, including four home runs, to sweep the day. Kameron Loe took the loss in relief in game one, while Oklahoma starter Elizardo Ramirez was handed his third loss of the year in game two. Nate Gold and John Mayberry provided the majority of the RedHawks offense during the first game with fourth inning home runs, while the Jason Botts solo home run was the only Oklahoma offensive output in game two.
NOTHING FREE:
The RedHawks had a streak of 31 consecutive innings without issuing a walk snapped when Carlos Gonzalez drew a free pass with two outs in the top of the eighth inning in game one yesterday. Nine different pitchers were a part of the streak that started during the third inning Sunday in Tacoma when Eric Hurley walked Jeremy Reed.
MENCH TRADED:
Kevin Mench was traded earlier today to the Toronto Blue Jays for cash considerations. Mench hit .282 with three home runs and 18 runs batted in for Oklahoma this year after re-signing with Texas during the offseason. Mench was originally drafted by the Rangers in 1999, made his Major League debut in 2002, and was traded to Milwaukee during the 2006 season. The 30 year-old appeared in his first career game at first base this season for Oklahoma after 1042 combined games between the outfield and the designated hitter spot. Mench had hit safely in a season-high seven straight games prior to the trade.
WELCOME BACK BOTTS:
Jason Botts hit a home run in his first plate appearance for the RedHawks this season after being outrighted by Texas earlier on Wednesday. Botts has hit 52 of his 113 minor league home runs in a RedHawks jersey. The home run came off Kirk Saarloos, whom Botts also hit his first Major League home run off of May 28th, 2007.
SACRAMENTO AT A GLANCE:
The River Cats corralled their 500th regular season victory by winning game one last night. Sacramento entered the year with 482 wins since moving from Vancouver in 2000, and now have a franchise record 500-397... Nine different River Cats had multi-hit games over the course of yesterday's action... Sacramento had a player one hit shy of a cycle in each game yesterday. Casey Rogowski went 3-5 in game one and was a triple short, while Brooks Conrad was a home run shy in the nightcap.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION:
Texas beat Seattle 5-0... Frisco knocked off Corpus Christi 12-8 on the road... Bakersfield won 7-3 at Modesto... Clinton beat Peoria 7-3.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
Drew Meyer was activated from the disabled list earlier today and fills the roster spot vacated with the Mench trade. Meyer had been on the disabled list since May 1 with a groin injury and hasn't played since April 30... Warner Madrigal made his Triple-A debut last night, pitching one inning in game two of the doubleheader. Madrigal allowed one hit and walked one while throwing a scoreless sixth inning... A.J. Murray was optioned to Oklahoma prior to yesterday's Rangers game, but has not been added to the RedHawks roster yet... John Mayberry is slated to make his first start in right field for Oklahoma today after starting the last ten games in left. Mayberry has primarily been a right fielder during his minor league career.
