LAST GAME:
The Oklahoma RedHawks beat the Round Rock Express 19-3 Thursday evening, rallying for three runs in the fourth, five in the fifth, eight in the seventh, and three runs in the eighth. Every Oklahoma hitter had at least one hit, led by Joaquin Arias and Jason Ellison with four apiece, while every RedHawks scored at least once, with Nelson Cruz and Ryan Roberts scoring three times each. Oklahoma's 19 runs and 20 hits were both season-high tallies, and tied for the fourth-highest run total with the third-highest margin of victory in RedHawks history, dating back to 1998. Elizardo Ramirez (3-1) earned the win, and Fernando Nieve (1-2) took the loss.
STREAKS ROLL ON:
Jason Ellison and Brandon Boggs each extended their hitting streaks to eight games in last night's contest, with Ellison knocking a leadoff double in the bottom of the first and Boggs reaching on a single in the fifth inning. Andrew Beattie of Albuquerque has the PCL's longest streak of the season at 11 games, but that was stopped last night, so Ellison and Boggs have the longest current streaks in the league.
GONE... AGAIN:
The RedHawks hit a home run for the seventh consecutive game, a streak that dates back one week to the start of their series in Albuquerque. Oklahoma hit two last night; a three-run shot by Nelson Cruz in the fifth and a grand slam by Jason Ellison in the seventh. The RedHawks have hit nine home runs during the streak and 17 overall, trailing only the Isotopes (21), Salt Lake Bees (20), and Omaha Royals (20) in this PCL power category.
DURAN TO TEXAS:
German Duran had his contract purchased by Texas prior to yesterday's game with Round Rock. Duran spent all of 2007 with Frisco and appeared in 10 games for Oklahoma this season, hitting .250 with two doubles, two triples, and a run batted in. He is the second RedHawk player to get the call to Texas this year, following Wed Littleton's recall on Monday. Duran was in the starting lineup for Texas last night, batting ninth and playing third. He finished 0-3 with three strikeouts.
ROUND ROCK AT A GLANCE:
Kaz Matsui made his third straight rehab appearance for Round Rock in last night's loss. Matsui hit .182 with one home run and one double in 12 plate appearances. He is expected to rejoin the Astros lineup tonight or tomorrow... Thursday's loss marked the first time this season that an opponent scored double digits in runs against the Express. Round Rock surrendered ten or more runs a total of 13 times in 2007... Victor Diaz had an 11-game on-base streak snapped on Tuesday. Diaz's run was the longest such streak by an Express player this season, and just three games off the league high of 14 (Shane Costa of Omaha).
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION:
Texas beat Toronto 4-1... Frisco edged Corpus Christi 4-3... Lancaster knocked off Bakersfield 5-3... Clinton had the day off.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
Oklahoma's 19 runs and 20 hits are the high water mark around the young PCL season, topping Round Rock's 16-run output on 4/05 at Iowa, and three teams that have amassed 17 hits in a game this season (Colorado Springs, Portland, and Salt Lake)... Kendy Batista made his Triple-A debut with a scoreless ninth inning last night. The right-hander pitched a perfect ninth, striking out Kaz Matsui for the game's final out.
ON THE AIR:
Every game this season can be heard on the RedHawks Radio Network, led by broadcaster Jim Byers for the ninth season, and joined by Adam Marco during each homestand. Fox Sports Radio AM 1340 in Oklahoma City will serve as the flagship station in 2008. The network affiliates this season are KSIW 1450 AM in Woodward, KXCA 1380 AM in Lawton, KPNS 1350 AM in Duncan, KTJS 1420 AM in Hobart, KGFF 1450 AM in Shawnee, and KWSH 1260 AM in Wewoka.
