Portland Beavers News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Brian Myrow tallied three hits, Wade LeBlanc earned his second Triple-A win and the Portland Beavers completed a three-game sweep of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox with a 5-1 victory Friday night at Security Service Field.

The win was the 7,500th in the 93-year history of the Portland Triple-A franchise, a chronology that dates back to 1903.

It was Portland's first road-series sweep since winning each of a four-game set at Fresno, Aug. 30-Sept. 2, 2004. The series with the Sky Sox was shortened when snow and extreme temperatures forced the postponement of Thursday's scheduled game.

The Beavers, who went 4-3 on their first road trip, return to PGE Park Saturday night to begin a four-game series with the division-leading Salt Lake Bees. First pitch on Saturday is 7:05 p.m.

Luis Rodriguez stretched his season-opening hitting streak to 11 games, Myrow, who had two doubles, hit in his eighth straight and Nick Hundley hit his team-leading fourth home run for the Beavers (7-7), who recorded their first winning road trip of seven or more games since the 2006 campaign.

Matt Antonelli was 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base.

LeBlanc (2-0) turned in another solid outing, holding the Sky Sox (6-9) to one run and three hits in his five innings. The left-hander gave up three walks, struck out two and helped his cause with an RBI single in the top of the sixth that made it 5-1.

LeBlanc combined with newly activated Enrique Gonzalez and Adam Bass to limit Colorado Springs to five hits in the series finale.

Antonelli, who has reached base in each of his 11 games, led off the game with a single. He then stole second, moved to third on a groundout and scored when Myrow doubled to right field with two outs.

Chase Headley, who extended his hitting streak to six games, hit a two-out double that plated Antonelli in the third. After Sean Barker hit a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the third, Hundley belted a solo home run and Rodriguez added a run-scoring double as the Beavers extended their lead to 4-1 in the top of the fourth.

Josh Towers (1-1) allowed five runs and eight hits while striking out five in 5 2/3 innings for the loss, the Sky Sox' fourth in a row.

NOTES: Myrow batted .519 (14-for-27) during the opening road trip ... Portland outscored Colorado Springs 23-5 in the series ... the postponement from Thursday has been rescheduled for Sunday, Aug. 10, at Security Service Field ... Gonzalez, who was sent outright to Portland on April 15, was activated and struck out five in two innings of scoreless relief in his Beavers debut Friday night ... the Beavers have 10 or more hits in seven of their last eight games and are batting .303 as a team ... Portland's last sweep over Colorado Springs was Aug. 12-15, 2005, at PGE Park.
