Tulsa Oilers News Release

TULSA, OK- The Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League improved their record to 15-2-0 after winning two of three games on the road this last weekend. Their 30 points is tops in the CHL and puts the Oilers in first place of the Northwest Division standings, 13 ahead of the second-place Oklahoma City Blazers, who have played two fewer games.

On Thursday night, the Oilers saw their eight-game winning streak snapped as they fell to the Odessa Jackalopes 3-0 in Odessa. The game was the first time all season that the Oilers were shutout. Rookie Goalie Jason Stone lost his second game of the year.

The Oilers rebounded on Friday night, winning a defensive struggle 1-0 in Amarillo against the Gorillas. Dallas Anderson's first-period goal stood up as goalie Rod Branch stopped all 39 shots he faced en route to his CHL-best sixth shutout of the season.

On Saturday night, the Oilers dug themselves a 5-1 hole midway through the second period, but came back strong to win 6-5 in Albuquerque against the New Mexico Scorpions. Branch had an off night as he surrendered five goals through one and a half periods and was pulled in favor of Stone. The move seemed to spark the Oilers, as they scored five-straight goals, including three in the third to pull out the victory. Pat Hallett, Jamie Steer, Mike Johnson, Aaron Millar, and Jordon Flodell all scored goals for the Oilers in the come-back victory, with Hallett scoring twice. Steer also added two assists and Todd Marcellus picked up three assists.

The Oilers will now travel to Wichita for a game against the Thunder Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. Tulsa returns home this weekend when they host the Fort Worth Brahmas on Friday night and the Thunder on Saturday night. Start-times for both games are 7:35 p.m. at the Tulsa Convention Center. Tickets are available at local Drug Marts, the Tulsa Convention Center Box Office, the Oilers office, or by phone at 584-2000.
