Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release
Lubbock Weekly Release for Nov 25 - Dec 1st
THE TURKEY AND MAC TRADITION As people across the nation make their plans to be with family and loved ones for Thanksgiving, the Cotton Kings do not have time to be with their family, unless their family makes plans to join them here in Lubbock. With Thanksgiving book-ended with games, the schedule gives no leeway for players to travel to their homelands. For all those players with no family in town, whether American, Canadian, or European, Coach Bill McDonald and his wife Trudy open their doors so that the players can have a place to congregate and enjoy a turkey dinner. "Some players make arrangements with families in Lubbock, but for those without a place to go, I invite them all and encourage them to join Trudy and I," said head coach Bill McDonald. "I started this back in Thunder Bay, when I coached there, and I do it for Christmas as well. I have a Canadian Thanksgiving environment with a Texas twist. On the table I will have turkey, pirogis, and Cabbage Rolls, which is more of a Canadian style Thanksgiving feast, and when we're not eating, we are watching the Dallas Cowboys. There is not a better way to spend Thanksgiving than getting to eat a great dinner and socializing while watching the Redskins get beat."
SPREAD THE WEALTH Scrolling down the Cotton Kings roster, 14 of the 16 Cotton King skaters have received goals this season, which means 87.5% of the âKings roster has scored a goal. The Cotton Kings currently rank second in that department in comparison to the rest of the Central Hockey League, as the Tulsa Oilers have had 16 of their 18 players (88.9%) tally goals this season. Lubbock's Mike Dawson and Dave Ambler are the only two âKings without goals scored this season. In the six games that the âKings have tallied three or more goals; Lubbock has had different individuals tallying each goal in five of them, and through the first 15 games, only two games have involved a Cotton Kings player scoring more than one goal in the game.
FAMILIAR FACES SO FAR The Cotton Kings are the only team in the CHL this season that has not released, waived, or traded a player this season. The Fort Worth Brahmas have released the most with 6 roster deletions.
âKING OF THE WEEK Veteran forward Dave MacIntyre has been awarded as the Lubbock Cotton Kings Player of the Week for the week of November 18-24th. The Cotton Kings team captain collected two goals in three games to lead the team in goals for the week. He helped the âKings get at least one standing point in Laredo Friday night by tying the game with 4.8 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. MacIntyre also scored in the overtime shootout, but the âKings eventually lost in the overtime shootout 3-2.
DINING WITH THE âKINGS Fans can join the Lubbock Cotton Kings tonight (Monday) in an opportunity to meet the âKings, raise money for charity, and enjoy a great meal, as the âKings will be at Johnny Carino's tonight from 5-9PM working as waiters. Cotton Kings players will be taking their tips and donating them to the Salvation Army.

WEEK AHEAD
Wed. Nov. 27 7:05 PM vs Odessa Jackalopes Radio: KKAM 1340 AM
Notes: Once again, the Cotton Kings will look to end a 13-game winless streak against the Jackalopes, as they make their first visit of the season to Lubbock. The âKings are 5-6-3 all-time against the Jackalopes inside the Kingdom, where they lost all five meetings last season within a two-goal margin (2 losses were in overtime).
Fri. Nov. 29 7:11 PM @ Amarillo Gorillas Radio: KKAM 1340 AM
Notes: We are predicting a shutout, but we can't predict which team will shutout the other. Each of the three meetings so far this season have resulted in shutouts, with the Cotton Kings shutting out the Gorillas 6-0 in the first two meetings and the Gorillas shutting out the âKings last Saturday night 2-0. This is Lubbock's second trip to Amarillo this season, where they have won 9 out of their last 10.
