Published on November 25, 2002 under Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
Oklahoma City Blazers center Blair Manning and Odessa Jackalopes goaltender Mike Gorman have been named the recipients of the Central Hockey League's Player and Goaltender of the Week awards for Week 6 of the CHL season.
Manning, in his first year with the Blazers, had six points in three Blazer victories, including back to back three-point outings in a home and home sweep of the Wichita Thunder Friday and Saturday. The Vancouver, British Columbia native leads the CHL with 15 assists and has crept into the top ten in the CHL scoring race with 23 points in 15 contests. An All-Star last season with San Antonio, Manning led the Iguanas with 77 points, and played nine games for Utah of the American Hockey League.
Gorman, the CHL's Most Outstanding Goaltender last season, continued his outstanding play this week, turning aside 86 of 89 shots faced. Gorman blanked the Tulsa Oilers 3-0 by making 30 saves on November 21st, then made 31 saves in a 2-1 win at El Paso two nights later. Gorman's only loss came to Fort Worth, November 19th, where the Brahma's Matt Mullin made 49 saves to secure a 2-1 victory. With his outstanding week, Gorman now sits third in the CHL in save percentage (93.7), goals against average (1.90) and wins (8). Last season, the Ontario native was selected as the starting goaltender for the Southern Conference in the CHL All-Star Game, and was named the CHL's Most Outstanding Goaltender after receiving 33 of 50 votes in balloting among coaches, broadcasters and selected media members.
