Oilers Score Two Late to Beat the Americans 5-4

Allen Texas-The Allen Americans fall to the Tulsa Oilers today 5-4 at the Allen Event Center in front of a crowd of 4,812.

The Americans took the lead midway through the first period on a powerplay goal by Americans forward Brian McMillin, his 7th goal of the season from Tyler Ludwig and Jason Deitsch at 13:32. With the help of a strong Allen defense, the Americans and Allen netminder James Reid held it tight for the rest of the period a 1-0 lead on the Oilers after twenty minutes of play.

The Oilers came out flying in the second and immediately opened fire. Oilers defenseman Sean Erickson netted his 8th goal of the season, from Marty Standish and Jeff Terminesi just 46 seconds in to the period. The Oilers would grab their first lead of the night when Michal Beausoleil fired one past Allen netminder James Reid from the right side for a 2-1 Tulsa lead. The Americans rallied, as Colton Yellow Horn broke the tie with his 16th goal of the season, a powerplay goal, from Tyler Ludwig and James Reid, Ludwig's second helper of the night. Oilers forward Troy Ofuknay answered the Americans goal late in the second; from Luke Lucyk and Mike Ullrich giving the Oilers a 3-2 lead on the Americans at the end of 40 minutes of play; despite Allen outshooting the Oilers 28 to 16.

In the third, the Americans put two goals in the net, but that just wouldn't be enough. The first Americans goal happened midway through the third when Americans defenseman Joshua Hepditch got one to the back of the net deflecting a pass from Jim McKenzie to tie the score at 3. Then Brian McMillin, collected his second goal of the game and 8th of the season, tipping one past the Oilers netminder Steve Christie to give the Americans their first lead since the opening period 4-3. That lead lasted all of 39 seconds, as Oilers All Star defenseman Jeff Terminesi let a wrister fly from the left side to tie the score again at 4. With only 2:16 left on the clock in the third, the Oilers grabbed the lead again when Jason Weeks shot was redirected off an Allen skate and in to the net to give Tulsa a 5-4 lead. The Americans put on great pressure in the final minute but were unable to get one past Steve Christie as the Oilers escape with a 5-4 victory over the Americans. Allen outshot Tulsa 41 to 25.

The next Americans home game is Tuesday January 24 against Arizona.
