The Killer Bees won two of three against the Texas Brahmas the past week vaulting themselves squarely into playoff contention. The Bees now face the Laredo Bucks in four straight games including three this week starting Tuesday at the Hive.

Friday vs Texas Brahmas, 3-2 W

HIDALGO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (15-13-5) reached the halfway point of their season tonight and celebrated with a 3-2 victory over the Texas Brahmas (17-13-1). The Bees scored three goals in the second period for the win.

Saturday vs Texas Brahmas, 3-1 W

HIDALGO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (16-13-5) defeated the Texas Brahmas (15-13-7) on Saturday night with a final score of 3-1. Tomas Klempa scored his 15th and 16th goals of the season.

Sunday at Texas Brahmas, 4-2 L

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (16-14-5) fell to the Texas Brahmas (16-13-7) by a 4-2 score as the Brahmas avoided the three-game sweep. AJ Mikkelsen and Aaron Lee both scored for the Bees in the loss.

BEES NEED TO KNOW

. Once Aaron Lee stepped onto the ice on Jan. 15 in Texas history was made as it was Lee's 224th time donning the Killer Bees sweater, a new franchise record. Lee passed Ryan Shymr.

. There are only two iron men among the Bees players this season as only Brandon Campos and Scott Balan have suited up for all 35 Bees games. Last season two players, Tomas Klempa and Rob Cowan, played in all 66 games.

. The 2011 calendar year has come to a close. The Bees finished with a 25-31-7 during 2011 spread over the end of last season and the start of this year.

. Forward Aaron Lee was named a reserve to the 2012 CHL All-Star game. For Lee it was his first All-Star appearance. The All-Stars defeated Arizona 6-4.

. The Bees have not had much success ringing in the new year historically. The Bees are now 2-8-0 on games on New Year's Eve including this years 4-2 win over Arizona.

. Mark Kroeze was signed by the Bees on November 5 to serve as an emergency back-up goalie after an injury to Dan Dunn. Kroeze is a Minnesota native who is also is the first-ever McAllen City Urban Forester. Kroeze also serves on the Killer Bees off-ice officials crew.
