Oilers Fall at Missouri

November 11, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release

INDEPENDENCE, MO - It took the CHL leading Missouri Mavericks (7-1-1) less than two minutes to get on the board on Friday night and from there the Mavericks cruised to a six goal lead before wrapping up a 6-3 victory over the Tulsa Oilers (4-4-1) in front of a sell-out crowd at the Independence Events Center.

The Oilers lost their third straight game despite outshooting the Mavericks 40-36. John-Scott Dickson chipped in a pair of goals for the home side and Missouri forward Sebastian Thinel, the CHL's leading scorer, continued his impressive play by notching a goal and two assists. Thinel now has 18 points in just nine games.

Jon Olthuis made his first start in goal for the Oilers and made 13 saves on 18 shots but was relieved by Ian Keserich after giving up two goals in the first two minutes of the second period. Keserich came in and made 17 saves in relief.

Although the Oilers trailed 6-0 going into the third period, they kept fighting and finally solved Mavs goalie Charlie Effinger at the 5:46 mark of the final frame when Jay Sprague tapped in a pretty pass from Gerome Giudice. Veteran forward Marty Standish got his first goal of the season and Mike Ullrich tallied his team leading sixth goal to extend his goal-scoring streak to four games.

The Oilers are back home tomorrow night against Quad City at 7:35pm and will take on Wichita on Sunday at home at 4:05pm.

Tickets: Season tickets for the Oilers 20th season in the CHL are now on sale. More information is available by calling the Oilers office at (918) 632-PUCK (7825) or by visiting www.tulsaoilers.com.
