November 11, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bloomington Blaze News Release
The Bloomington Blaze, presented by Mid-Illini Credit Union, scored with seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime, but fell 3-2 in a shootout to the Texas Brahmas on Friday night at NYTEX Sports Centre in North Richland Hills, Texas.
After a scoreless first period with a combined 12 shots, the Brahmas struck first when a puck deflected off a skate deep in the Bloomington slot and was buried by T.J. Fox at 8:05 into the period. The Blaze answered less than 90 seconds later when Travis Granbois scored his second goal of the season on a tic-tac-toe from Mark Znutas and Aaron Dawson on a 5-on-3 power play.
Texas took a quick lead when Chad Woolard put back a rebound just 42 seconds into the third period to put the Brahmas up 2-1. The Blaze pulled goaltender Marco Emond for the final minute and scored with the extra attacker with just 20.6 seconds left when Aaron Dawson stabbed in a rebound in a wild flurry at the net to tie the game at 2-2 and send the game to extra time.
After a scoreless overtime in which the Blaze killed a penalty, the Brahmas tallied first in the shootout when T.J. Fox scored in the first round. The Blaze lone shootout goal came from Jason Dale in the second round, and the Brahmas sealed the win with a fourth-round goal from Jordan Kary.
The Brahmas outshot the Blaze 43-19. The Blaze end a stretch of three games without collecting a point and fall to 1-3-2. The Brahmas have now won four of their last five games and improve to 4-4-0.
The Blaze face the Brahmas in a rematch on Saturday night at 7:30 in the NYTEX Sports Centre. Pre-game on WJBC.com and CHL-TV is 7:15 p.m. The Blaze continue the road trip with games at Quad City on Tuesday and Friday and at Dayton on Thursday before returning home on Saturday, November 19 against the Dayton Gems. Special guest at U.S. Cellular Coliseum next Saturday is the actress who plays Rocky Blue on the Disney Channel hit show, "Shake It Up," Zendaya Coleman, who will be meeting fans and signing autographs from 6-9 p.m. on the Coliseum concourse before and during the game.
