Oil Kings Thwarted by Warriors

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings finished their 6-game homestand with a 4-1 loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night at Rogers Place.

The Warriors jumped out to a quick lead on goal from Robert Baco just 2:25 into the contest after he was able to toss home a rebound from a Denton Mateychuk one-timer from the right-circle.

Jagger Firkus increased the visitors lead just past the midway mark of the first period after he was setup for a one-timer in the right-circle, by former Oil King Logan Dowhaniuk, that he rocketed into the back of the Edmonton net.

Before the period was out, the Warriors struck for a third time with Eric Alarie cashing in on a breakaway with a perfectly placed shot over the right arm of Kolby Hay.

Early in the second period, the Warriors went ahead by four after Josh Hoekstra was able sneak in a shot from the left-wing wall at the 2:18 mark.

Midway through the middle stanza, Rilen Kovacevic got the Oil Kings on the board with his 11th of the season after jumping on turned over puck at the Edmonton line, streaking the length of the ice on a breakaway and lasering a shot over the glove hand of Jackson Unger.

Despite firing 34 shots on the Moose Jaw net through 40 minutes of play, the Oil Kings had to settle for just the one goal and the 4-1 deficit at the second intermission.

The team's skated to a scoreless third period as the Warriors left Rogers Place with a couple of points thanks to a 4-1 win.

Hay finished the night making 23 saves, while Unger made 42. Both teams finished the night 0-for-4 on the power play.

Next up, the Oil Kings hit the road to begin a five-game road trip starting tomorrow afternoon in Calgary when they take on the Hitmen at 2:00 p.m.

The Edmonton Oil Kings next home game is Saturday, February 18 when they take on the Calgary Hitmen at 7:00 p.m.
