Prince George Cougars News Release
Prince George, BC - The Prince George Cougars got back in the win column with an 8-1 clobbering over the Victoria Royals, Friday at the CN Centre.
Tyler Brennan posted his eighth win of the season, making 24 saves on 25 Victoria shots. Eight different Cougars finished with multi-point nights in the victory.
The Cougars got the scoring started just over ten minutes into the game with Caden Brown tipping one by Braden Holt to make it 1-0. Tyler Brennan was spectacular in goal, making 16 saves on 16 Victoria shots in the period. The Cats took the 1-0 lead to the dressing room after 20 minutes.
It took just 27 seconds for #27 Riley Heidt to find the back of the net in the second period to make it 2-0. The Royals went to a 5 on 3 power-play and the Cougars penalty-kill was terrific. The Cats got big shot blocks and even bigger saves from Tyler Brennan. The Royals cut into the lead with a Marcus Almquist short-handed marker, which was quickly countered by Viliam Kmec, who scored 22 seconds later to re-store the Cougars two-goal lead. Chase Wheatcroft added a goal late in the second to make it 4-1 PG after 40 minutes.
The Cougars soared with flying colours in the final frame, getting three power-play goals from Zac Funk, Hudson Thornton, and Caden Brown to give PG a 7-1 cushion. Koehn Ziemmer put the cherry on top with his 27th of the season, late in the period, to make it 8-1. The Cougars collect their third straight win against the Royals this season.
