Americans Surge Past Winterhawks in 6-1 Victory

The Ams earned their fifth straight victory on Friday as they defeated the Winterhawks 6-1.

Tri-City trailed in the first period as Marcus Nguyen opened scoring for Portland. Shots were an even 9-9 after 20 minutes.

Marc Lajoie turned the momentum of the game 43 seconds into the second period as put the Ams on the board. The 19-year-old defenseman is on a season-high four game point streak. Midway through the period, Adam Mechura gave Tri-City the lead as he cleaned up a loose puck in the crease off a shot from Jordan Gavin. Tri-City out shot Portland 11-5 in the second frame and carried a 2-1 lead into intermission.

Andrew scored 4:37 into the third period to extend the lead to 3-1. Fan, a native of Eagle River, Alaska, has scored two of his five goals this season against the Winterhawks.

Ethan Ernst, the Ams goals leader, netted his 28th of the season unassisted to build on the lead and put Tri-City up 4-1.

Less than a minute later, Jordan Gavin scored off an odd-man rush set up by Jake Sloan. It was Tri-City's third goal over a span of 2:18.

Sloan added a goal of his own later in period, to secure a final 6-1 victory for the Ams.

Tomas Suchanek played the full game in net, turning aside 28 of 29 shots faced. He has won his last 12 games.

Tri-City is on a 10-0-3-0 streak with victories over their last five games.

They will take on the Winterhawks again tomorrow in Portland.
