Oil Kings Sign Forward Owen Mastroianni to WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement

(Edmonton, AB) - The Edmonton Oil Kings have signed 2007-born forward Owen Mastroianni to a Western Hockey League Scholarship and Development Agreement, the Club announced today.

Mastroianni, 16, is a Golden, BC product and was originally drafted by the Oil Kings in the 11th round, 241st overall, of the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft.

"We are excited to welcome Owen as a member of the organization," said Oil Kings Director of Scouting Michael Chan. "Owen brings speed, skill and a persistent attitude to the table. He has had a strong start to the year to follow up on strong performances at our last two training camps. We look forward to his continued development."

This season, the 5-foot-7, 140-pound forward is playing with the Edge School U18 Prep team and is third on his team in scoring with 10 points (5G, 5A) and 27 penalty minutes in nine games.

Last season, he suited up in 31 games with the U17 Prep team at the Edge School and led his team in scoring and finished top 15 in league scoring with 46 points (19G, 27A).

The Oil Kings are excited to welcome Owen and the entire Mastroianni family to the organization.

Mastroianni is expected to make his WHL debut tonight when they Oil Kings take on the Medicine Hat Tigers at Co-Op Place.

The Edmonton Oil Kings next home game is tomorrow, Saturday, December 9 at 7:00 P.M. when they host their Star Wars Night against the Medicine Hat Tigers.
