Winterhawks Acquire Picks for Luke Schelter

Portland, Ore. - The Portland Winterhawks Hockey Club today acquired two WHL Prospects Draft picks from the Kelowna Rockets in exchange for 19-year-old forward Luke Schelter.

Portland receives:

2025 5th-round pick

2027 6th-round pick (conditional)

Kelowna receives:

F - Luke Schelter ('04)

"Luke has been a great teammate and contributed significantly to our success over the last 4 years," said Winterhawks President, General Manager and Head Coach Mike Johnston. "We want to wish him continued success as he advances his career in Kelowna."

Originally selected in the sixth round, #124 overall, of the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft, Schelter has four goals and 10 assists for 14 points in 25 games so far this season. After a six-game stint with the Winterhawks in the shortened 2020-21 season, Schelter spent three full seasons in the Rose City, picking up 55 points across 145 career games. The Centennial, Colo. native also posted one goal and three assists for four points in 14 playoff games with Portland. The move brings the Winterhawks roster to 26 players (14 forwards, 8 defensemen, 4 goalies).
