Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Medicine Hat, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings dropped the first game of their weekend home-and-home with the Medicine Hat Tigers by an 8-2 score at Co-Op Place.
The Tigers were able to jump out to a 2-0 lead just over five minutes into the game after Andrew Basha and Hayden Harsanyi scored goals just 15 seconds apart.
Basha was able to capitalize on a turnover inside the Oil Kings zone and made no mistake slipping a backhand shot five-hole on a breakaway.
Harsanyi doubled the lead after finishing off a cross-ice feed from Oasiz Wiesblatt on a two-on-one rush into the Edmonton zone just seconds later.
Late in the period, the Oil Kings best chance to score came off the rush as Cole Miller sped into the Medicine Hat zone and ripped a shot off the post from the right-circle.
The Tigers outshot the Oil Kings 16-7 in the first period, but thanks to some fine goaltending from Beckett Langkow, who was making his Oil Kings debut against his former team, the deficit remained at just two through 20 minutes.
In the second period, the Tigers would extend to a 5-0 lead 11:39 in after getting a pair of goals from Wiesblatt on nifty setups from Tomas Mrsic and a tip in from Shane Smith off a Josh Van Mulligen point shot.
Just 12 seconds after the Tigers went up by five, the Oil Kings were able to get on the board as Vojtech Port skated in over the Medicine Hat blueline and snapped a shot from long-range that beat Ethan McCallum past his blocker.
With just 12 seconds left in the period, the Oil Kings were able to cut the deficit to three after Marshall Finnie stuffed in a centering pass from Gavin Hodnett on a late Edmonton power play.
In the third period, the Tigers would put the game away with three more goals courtesy Cayden Lindstrom, Smith, his second of the night and a shorthanded tally from Hunter St. Martin.
Langkow finished the night making 30 saves, while McCallum turned in 19. Edmonton went 1-for-6 on the power play, Medicine Hat was 0-for-1.
Next up, the Oil Kings and Tigers do battle again tomorrow night at Rogers Place for the Oil Kings Star Wars Night with puck drop set for 7:00 P.M.
