Kennewick, WA - The Edmonton Oil Kings dropped a 7-1 decision to the Tri-City Americans on Saturday night at the Toyota Center.
The Americans jumped on the Oil Kings early and were able to grab a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Ian Ferguson opened the scoring just under three minutes into the contest after he finished off a 2-on-1 rush with Deagan McMillan.
Ethan Ernst pounded home a slapshot from the top of the right-circle on a Tri-City power play at the 8:48 mark to increase the lead to two.
Jake Sloan added on just 2:46 later after he tipped in an Alex Serraglio point-shot.
Jordan Gavin picked up the Americans second power play goal of the frame with 4:20 left in the period as he sniped the top-left corner of the Edmonton net.
In the second period, the Americans added three more goals from Gavin, Parker Bell and Reece Belton to a 7-1 lead into the second intermission.
Oil Kings first-year defenceman Vojtech Port was able to get the Oil Kings on the board six minutes into the middle stanza after he collected a pass from Shea Van Olm at the blueline and lasered a shot past Thomas Suchanek for his first career WHL goal.
There would be no scoring in the third period as the Americans cruised to the 7-1 victory.
Between the pipes, Alex Worthington (18/24) and Kolby Hay (16/17) combined for 34 saves for the Oil Kings, while Suchanek made 32 saves for the Americans. Edmonton was 0-for-5 on the power play, Tri-City was 3-for6.
