The Story:
Robbie Fromm-Delorme posted four points (2G, 2A) and four other Winterhawks recorded multiple points as they cruised past the Spokane Chiefs 5-2 on Sunday.
With the win, Portland moves to 5-0-0 on the year.
Fromm-Delorme scored the first of four Portland power-play goals at 14:08 of the first period, hammering home a Jack O'Brien pass at the top of the crease. The Hawks carried that advantage throughout the frame before doubling it with 12 seconds to go as Fromm-Delorme corralled Kyle Chyzowski's clearing chip at the Spokane blue line and fed Dawson Pasternak at the left post for a backdoor tap-in and a 2-0 lead.
The Winterhawks continued to roll in the second period, particularly on the power play as they potted two more with the man advantage. Fromm-Delorme grabbed his second of the night at 4:05 as he whacked in a Luca Cagnoni rebound, then Chyzowski posted one of his own with a one-timed blast at 13:00, set up by Ryan McCleary.
Portland put the game on ice early in the third with its fourth strike on the power play as O'Brien finished off a gorgeous passing play for the team's fifth tally. Off the initial faceoff, Cagnoni carried the puck along the blue line before finding James Stefan on the left-wing half-wall, who then put it down low for Fromm-Delorme. He then quickly spun a pass across the crease to a wide-open O'Brien for the one-timer. Spokane eventually responded with a pair of goals from Berkly Catton and Ben Bonni, but Winterhawks netminder Jan Špunar held strong to pick up his second WHL win in as many starts with 24 total saves on the night.
The Winterhawks now return home to host the defending WHL Champion Edmonton Oil Kings at the VMC on Tuesday at 7:00 P.M.
QUOTE OF THE NIGHT presented by BBF TECHNOLOGIES:
"We kind of learned last year that the few points at the start of the season mean a lot toward the end, so I think we're taking a good approach this year and we're starting off really hot and hopefully it can continue."
Winterhawks forward Dawson Pasternak
