Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

EDMONTON, ALTA. - For the second night in a row, the Edmonton Oil Kings' offence struggled to crack the Calgary Hitmen.

Edmonton couldn't find a way past Hitmen netminder Lasse Petersen and managed just 17 shots as they fell 2-0 to the Hitmen Sunday afternoon at the Saddledome in Calgary.

The Oil Kings started stronger than they did in Saturday's 6-1 loss to Calgary, tightening up in the defensive end and allowing just six shots in a scoreless first period.

The Hitmen broke the double shutout 5:49 into the second frame as Carsen Twarynski converted on a 2-on-1 with Jordy Stallard to put the home side ahead.

The score stayed that way until midway through the third period when Lucas Cullen banged in a loose puck at the side of the net for Calgary's second goal.

Patrick Dea stopped 11 of 12 shots he faced in starting the game in the Oil Kings net, while Hughes made 13 saves on 14 shots after taking over midway through the game. Petersen stopped all 17 shots he faced for the Hitmen to earn the shutout as Calgary outshot Edmonton 26-17.

The loss drops the Oil Kings to an even 2-2 record in the preseason, while Calgary improves to 5-0. Edmonton will wrap up their exhibition schedule Friday in Red Deer.
